MINISTER'S MESSAGE
There is a story in the Middle East about a man who discovers a flying carpet in a cave. He takes the discovery home to his wife and together they go off for an adventure. They fly over a market and a man by the name of Abdullah sees them. Abdullah is very sly and catches the man when he is alone. He informs him, “I would like to buy your carpet.” The owner tells him that the carpet is very valuable. The bickering goes back and forth between the two men. The man finally set a price for the carpet, 100 dinars. Abdullah was pleased with that amount, believing he had secured a real bargain. The man returned to his wife, smiling and happy and reported the sale to her. She inquired as to the price. He told her that the man had paid him 100 dinars. His wife was disturbed as to his selling the carpet for that price. The man answered, “Is there any number higher than one hundred?”
This man because of his lack of knowledge, his lack of experience, and his lack of wisdom deprived himself of a new life. Are we like this man? Do we ask God for so little, when God could give us so much. Before coming to worship on Sunday take the time to read our scripture lesson, Isaiah 40:21-31. It is one of my favorite scriptures. It was also the favorite of a special person in my life, Mary Sharp Maddox. We used to talk about this message and what it means for our Christian faith. Mary Sharp brought this scripture alive for me. I can still see her walking all over town, to church, to the hospital. She even had to wait on me on one occasion when we climbed to the top of Natural Bridge. She also had that spiritual strength that is mentioned in this message. We need to have the same. God can give us so much more than we are asking for. See you Sunday for worship and our luncheon.
