Run the Good Race
Reading for Sunday, March 21
1 Corinthians 9:19-27
How many times in our lives do we come in contact with people that are not "like" us? What scenario popped to mind when you read that question? Is it a homeless man on the street with his cup extended or the woman at the mall that has a physical disability struggling to get her purchases on the counter? Are you the type of person that is eager to extend a hand or would you rather look the other way?
Jesus calls us to make ourselves a slave to serve others. He does not tell us to question the motives of others or their validity of their specific needs. Our job is to reach out to others and show them blessings as they have been shown to us. As it is said in verse 24, we are all in the same race, but it is important to run with the prize in mind. That prize is eternal life in heaven. While it is important to share the love of Jesus with others, we must also keep our own relationship with the Lord in high priority that we are not "disqualified" from the race ourselves.
Let's all accept the challenge this week to reach out to others without regard to differences. Whether we reach into our wallets, our hearts, or simply extend a hand...do something this week. Invite someone to run the race with you.
